I’m Attila Határ, a Hungarian artist exploring the complex layers of human nature with themes of memory, surrealism, and identity. Through my work, I invite you to step into a realm where dreams and reality merge, challenging perceptions and sparking self-reflection.

My Artistic Journey

What usually sparks the beginning of your creative process?

There’s no set formula—ideas often surface unexpectedly, especially when I’m not actively searching. New themes add excitement, taking me down paths that feel fresh and unexplored. It’s a reminder that creativity sometimes finds us in the moments we least expect, like a reflection of life’s surprises.

How do personal memories and experiences influence your work?

They’re everything; my memories shape each piece from the ground up. I transform familiar experiences into something new, allowing every viewer to find their own sense of nostalgia or connection within the work, as though we’re sharing parts of our own stories.

What role does nature play in your creative flow?

It’s twofold: the visual side connects deeply to surrealism, but the real anchor is the process—hands-on work with materials and textures, constantly asking myself why, how, and what, just as we question things in life. This approach keeps the work grounded in reality, inviting viewers into that blend of real and surreal.

What is your favorite part of creating a new piece?

It’s when I think it’s complete, only to realize it’s never truly finished. It’s like the art has its own voice, showing that there’s always more to discover, just as in life.

How do you feel when a viewer connects with your work?

It’s deeply fulfilling. Creating isn’t just about making something for myself; it’s about finding that spark in someone else’s experience. When viewers see something of themselves in my work, it feels like it’s finally come full circle.

Which artists inspire you?

I’m moved by the work of Adrian Ghenie, Neo Rauch, and Szabolcs Veres. Their art resonates on levels that inspire me to push boundaries in my own work.

If you could give advice to your past self as an artist, what would it be?

Don’t stress. Everything happens as it’s meant to.

Personal Insights

What’s your favorite music or band to listen to while creating?

I’m pretty open to anything when it comes to music. Sometimes, something clicks, and I’ll listen to it on repeat for the whole process, but most of the time, it just blends into the background. Often, I barely notice when an entire album has played—it all feels like one continuous sound. I couldn’t pinpoint a specific genre or artist.

Do you have any daily rituals or habits that help spark creativity?

Long walks and exercise are where new thoughts often emerge.

What’s your go-to way to relax after a long day?

A good movie, and maybe some sculpting or cooking—those things always help me unwind.

What’s the most unexpected source of inspiration for your work?

Unexpected moments, both in personal life and public events—anything that disrupts the routine and makes me see things differently.

Which era in history fascinates you the most, and why?

If I had to choose, it would be the 1980s. I wasn’t around to experience it, but I love the visual styles from that time across different areas of life.

What’s a dream country or place you’d love to visit for inspiration?

Finland and Iceland.

If you could exhibit your work anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Austria and Germany hold strong appeal, but any major city worldwide is naturally exciting.

Do you have a favorite book or movie that has impacted your life?

The Fifth Element by Luc Besson brings a sense of nostalgia from childhood. For books, The Art of Joy by Mihály Csíkszentmihályi has been impactful.

If you weren’t an artist, what other career could you see yourself pursuing?

I’ve thought about this often and discussed it with other creatives, but I haven’t found a clear answer. Cooking fascinates me.
